Okay. I have been looking through the chicken scratch sites, and I would like to make a quilt for my grandbaby due in June, and maybe even one for my niece's little boy. Anyone know where to get cute baby animal patterns for doing this, or how to make your own. I am very frugal, so if I can get them for free that would be wonderful.

I also did this a long time ago. I have a couple patterns I could copy and send of a set of aprons that were the seasons from an old magazine.
I did find this on the web. some people did swedish weaving at the time the chicken scratch was popular.

Here is some of the chicken scratch designs ..

It was interesting that some people said you could use any cross stitch design too make it.
Wow I hit the jackpot here is the link ...

Hey Yvonne, I have found a book in my local library, the name of it is The Great Craft-Quilts Book by the American School of Needlework. It has patterns for several quilt tops, but my favorite is the chicken scratch. It has the Basket, Martha Washington Star, Grape Basket, Dutch Rose, Stamp Basket, Pinwheel, Sunflower, Blazing Star, Snow Crystals Lemoyne Star, Shimmering Star, and Basket of Tulips.
I looked on E-bay and Amazon.com, and both have several of these books for sale. It's worth buying one.
