I usually choose it based on who it's going to and try to find something in their taste especially if it's really scrappy with no predominate color. Then I use a plain coordinating binding.

I save all my leftover binding, that was cut off during the end of binding my quilts. These really add up, but are also great to bind scrappy quilts with.

The backing is a good place to personalize the quilt, and the binding can be an anything goes... I like scrappys because you can be more free with choices :D:D:D

I would try laying out a few colors to get an idea of what look I might like best. I like marbles for binding. I'm not big on solids, and sometimes marbles are just right. The back can be anything you want...one fabric, or blocks of several different ones, or anything in between!

I love marbles too. They are great for binding and shashing.

I like marbles, blenders, or small prints for generic backings. Solids aren't my favorites for backings, I think they need a bit of movement. I like scrappy bindings for scrappy quilts, too.

I try to pick a color that stands out and use that so it pops my quilt. I do use sometimes different fabrics on back to make it interesting too.
