Our church quilting group has been asked to design/make a quilt to be hung in a new welcome center at the church. Someone suggested using the word "welcome"; someone mentioned incorporating a pineapple (sign for welcome.) Anyone have any ideas, patterns, pictures that might help us get started. This will be wall-hanging size or possibly just a little larger depending on where they will put it. Thanks for your suggestions

My initial thought was to do a copy of the front door that is opened with picture transfers of church attendees with open arms. Can be a lot of individual pictures or one during church services, blown up, use several sheets if needed for size. The word "Welcome" is right above it.

I think Cathedral Window or a stained glass window quilt would be nice!

What are you from ? Is there something regional that area business use as a logo ?

Around Shipshewanna they use a back horse and buggy so you know it is Amish , does that make sense ?

I didn't know pineapple meant welcome, so unless you are in Hawaii and everyone knew it meant Welcome it might seem odd.

Actually, the sailors took off for a long vorages way back couple hundred years ago. When they returned, they would bring pineapples and other fruits from foreign lands. Tradition has it that when the couple was ready for visitors they would set out a pineapple to welcome everyone.

Will look to see the end result, sounds like a wonderful project. I always wanted to make a wall hanging for our chapel.

I'm not sure what denomination your church is but this might be appropriate - what about a watercolor quilt with a cross in the middle, then light colors around it radiating out to darker colors?
