Has anyone else had trouble with this BOM? The directions are horrible---can't anyone give you the finished size of a block or 1/2 square triangle unit?? They speak like we're all in the 1960's technology and not we many various ways to make a certain block--I'm thinking of using the fabrics for different quilt blocks--anyone else have any ideas?

I'm not sure which one you're talking about but I always change things around. If you don't like the blocks or the directions do ones that you want to make. I did a CW BOM once. Here's a picture of mine. 12 blocks??? Nope, I didn't want mine that way.

If you look at my CW, when I'm talking about the "ugly quilt" I'm referring to the one in the last picture, not the CW quilt.

I agree with you. I am not using the fabric that is supposed to come with it---just making the quilt out of my own. UGH on those directions

I used the fabric, each month I bought an addition foot of each fabric. Then I just made more blocks out of the fabrics so that I had enough blocks to cover the entire bed. I didn't want 12 blocks set together with 12 or more giant hunks of fabric or border after border.
Don't forget that during the CW as with any war, supplies were hard to come by. People used any piece of fabric that they could to make clothing with. What was left over was put into quilts. So, tiny pieces in your blocks? Thats great. Don't have enough of one fabric? piece it together with another and cut your block piece out of that. In a CW quilt as long as you stick to the repro fabrics and don't stick batiks or something similar in it will be okay. Want to add something else "era appropriate?" Use strips of your left over fabrics (some of everything) in varying lengths to make your binding.

I signed up for the Civil War Tribute block of the month quilt last year in Indiana as it is not popular around her. I got an addendum from them recently and just read it. Evidently there are problems with block 7. I don't know how to put it on computer but it list a phone number and email for Homestead Health customer service for help. If you need it, pm me and I'll give you info.

I totally agree with you on the civil war tribute block of the month, the instructions were wrong or missing parts on several blocks. I had to buy more fabric on one of the blocks because the quilt shop didn't give me enough. (Which I don't think was right to charge me extra.) when I talked to them about it they just laughed about it. I thought I was an experienced quilter but this one is very hard. I'm almost tempted to finish it, drag it behind my car and then burn it in the yard to relieve my frustrations. I found a website with corrected instructions only after I had figured it out on my own. Whoever made this bom should have checked the diredtions a little better before they published it. Thanks for listening.
