Some household chemicals can cause problems and damage the finish on your machine. Clean it like a vintage machine to be safe. Most experts on this site recommend clear sewing machine oil rubbed with cotton balls. This takes time and works well. Davis R. McCallum in his book Those Fantastic Featherweights recommends Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze #10 Clear Plastic Polish. (Use only #10 and do not use a substitute.) When clean a coat of Carnauba car wax, (do not use one with a cleaner) will put a good shine on the machine. I use Meguiar’s Clear Plastic Polish #10 and Meguiar’s Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax on all types of machines and have never had problems.
