Hey Quilters,
I'm new to the board, but have been quilting in what time that I can find for a few years. I would like to make a quilt using some of my family photos. I don't know what process that I would need to go through to get the photos copied to material that can be used in the quilt. Please help if anyone is familiar with this process.

I recently learned how to use light color T-Shirt transfer sheets to get the photo on plain white fabric. Pre-wash and press smooth-finish fabric (white bed sheets will work). Do not use fabric softener or spray starch. These will pick up some of the ink and wash out. Scan your photo and check the size. Always mirror image and check color resolution before printing on T-Shirt transfer sheets. Cut off excess from around photo to prevent shadows. Center the photo on the white fabric which has been cut 2 inches larger than desired finished size. Using dry iron, iron at least a minute longer than the instructions say. Flip the fabric over with the picture and transfer paper on it and press another minute. Flip it back to the first side and iron yet another minute. Cool the fabric by waving in the air a few seconds and peel off transfer paper. To test colorfastness, press another minute with a sheet of plain paper against the picture. If any of the image transfers to the paper, it will run when washed; so discard the image and try again with longer pressing times.

Do a search on here and type in printing on fabric. We have had several threads talking about this subject.

I've always just bought the packages of fabric sheets ready for the printer. The only thing I did learn was to READ THE BACK!! I thought I had a great deal, and I did, but turned out it is dry clean only!! That was June Taylor, they did have a variety and the more expensive was what I should have used. Live and learn. But the predone stuff has just been easier and quicker for me. :?

My first quilt I wanted to make for my daughter. I downloaded her dance pictures onto my computer and bought the kind of fabric you put right into your printer. I printed them with the directions and made a quilt. I used the star quilt design and put her pictures in the middle of the stars. I am now in the middle of hand quilting it. It came out awesome, but didn't realize how much time it takes to hand quilt it. Pictures in a quilt is so personable and memorable - I am sure you can do it!! Sandy
