You don't say if you intend hand quilting, or machine, stitch in the ditch, straight line, free motion? IF by machine, then I would say *not* the red. I'd match thread to the areas of the quilt, so navy on the solid areas and cream on the light print. My rule for myself is that if I want my FMQ to show up, I use a thread a couple of shades lighter than the fabric -- so it is visible, but it doesn't dominate. Lighter marking on a darker background is less jarring and more forgiving of the potential skewed stitch here or there.

The shade of the red I see is more like a light burgundy or maroon, and it is just lovely. It would make a very nice contrast with the colors of the quilt.

It all depends on how you intend to quilt it. i would likely use a combination of blue and cream, I would shy away from the red personally, for this quilt.

Navy. Add cream if you are doing flower or something in those small blocks. Navy would look good on that background fabric but with the number of blocks, it would drag the tone of the quilt too low. I would only use red is you are one heck of a quilter as your handiwork will show up.
If you got it, flaunt it, if not, play it safe with navy.

I am thinking you are planning an E2E design using your pantovision. I really don't like either color for that application but if I only had a choice between the two it would be the navy. If you can expand your color choices, I would choose a soft camel tan color. More in keeping with the fabric and the quilting will not be "in your face". The red would be "in your face" and in my mind too contemporary given the fabric selections which seem more traditional like CW repro or country folkart (like thimbleberries type lines).

I like the possibilities with the red, but you have to be careful so it doesn't overpower....I also like the idea of the navy in an edge to edge design.

Definitely not red. Agree with the above suggestion that stated if using panto's to go with a camel/beige/tan tone, but navy could work also. If not doing edge-to-edge, i'd choose the navy and a soft cream for the small print too.

Given the two, navy. But I think a tan would harmonize with both and be subtle.
