I have a friend that I'm thinking of making a quillow for - but she's not the "country" type. Most quilt patterns say "country" to me. Can any of you think of a pattern that would be good for the front of the pillow that is more on the contemporary side?

Thanks in advance!

If you want to put the effort into it (I'm so not there yet), a New York Beauty is definitely not country - also most patterns in asian fabrics come off as contemporary, not matter how 'country' the pattern may be.

I think if you pick contemporary fabrics it won't look country. With the right fabric just a simple strip set or 9 patch wont' look country. Disappearing 9-patch, a simple box pattern and other blocks look contemporary. Find the right fabric/colors and you'll find your issue resolved.

you could use black & white fabrics. They give a contemporary look.

If you google "quillow" you can find several sets of directions for making these.

Quillows are great! All of mine so far have been gifts to give and are well used by my daughters when cuddling with their little dogs on the couch and my nieces who when younger, even took theirs on vacations. I make each one fit the interest of the receiver with a special photo in center, much like we see in purplepassion's photos of her quillows. I like to find really striking fabrics for the side that ends up showing as a pillow when all folded.
