I bought a cheap stick vacuum at Walmart for quick surface cleaning. Works great and converts to to hand held.

Update: Yesterday I went to my Wal Mart and was surprised at the selection that was there. In the end I purchased the Swiffer Vacuum as it exactly what I had in mind. Small, I can "swiff" the threads etc. then just vacuum them up, plug it back up and stick it behind my door. Actually because the floor space in my sewing room is so small I could run the vacuum while I swept if I desired. If this holds up, I will be a happy camper. Thanks for all of your input
