Great ideas! I sew in my basement and have several machines and always wondered if I should be covering them when I'm not using them. Now I know. Thanks.

Well I would have to say your DH has it right, but since our humidity runs about 11 rust isn't one of my worries. The only reason I would cover them lightly is because of dust/dirt getting into the machine. We have tremendous winds that blow sand all over everything, not so much a problem in my sewing room thank goodness; but oh my gosh does it make a mess of the sun room.

From what I've seen on the conditions of machines I get when I've bought out a hoarder - put the machine in a case with some of the dry stuff. The ones left in the humidity, heat and weather change are the ones that I see with problems with rust.

I would get some of a product called "DriZair" and put it near the machine as extra insurance for the sewing machine even with the dehumidifier. Any home store will usually have it.
