Default Help with granny's Quilt top

H i everyone. I'm a newbie quilter. I have been watching this board from the side lines and really enjoy enjoy and appreciate the info. My grandmother hand sewed and quilted myself a beautiful quilt. She pieced my sister a quilt top but never got it finished. I have the top. My problem is the stitching has come apart on my finished quilt. I'm worried if I finish my sisters quilt the same thing will happen to hers . What can I do prevent that from happening. Do I need to sew over all the old seams. please help. The tops were made forty years ago or longer Thanks

If you don't want to reinforce all the hand stitching (or maybe poor thread), I'd quilt it more densely. That way all the layers work together to hold each other in place.

Can you post photo's? Sometimes a close-up is helpful.
