The old, traditional crazy quilts used all kinds of scraps, fabrics, fabric labels from cigarettes and campaigns, signatures and dates embroidered in, also a ton of all kinds of other embroidery stitches to hold them together. I am not an expert, just going off of what I have seen and read. Have fun! :-)

Sure! Just remember some is more difficult to press with an iron. I think velvet and silk always look so pretty in a crazy quilt. Share pictures when you are finished.

If you use a muslin foundation you can use any fabric you want. The muslin makes it stable so you don't have to worry about grain lines either.

I'm with Scissor Queen, use a foundation and use any fabric you like. The more the better, make it personal. I have made silks, velvets, cotton and wool crazy quilts. and have mixed most of these in one crazy quilt. I also used old costume jewelry of my Mom's to decorate one of the quilts.
Go for it...have fun...be adventurous...remember it's for fun not brain surgery!

I cheated when I did my CQ..I used all diff Paper Piecings which worked out great...and all types of fabric...but my favorite fabric is the velvet. In fact I found a large piece in an antique shop which I used as the back
