Default Sewing Room Floor

What kind of floor is in your sewing room? My son is moving out soon and I will take over his bedroom as my new sewing room. His room has carpet and my current sewing room has hardwood floors. I plan on ripping out his carpet since it is ?? years old and don't know if it is better to replace it or go with the wood floor. I won't know the condition of the floor until the carpet comes out since it is the carpet that was in there when I bought the house. I could have it refinished or go with new carpet. What are the advantages or disadvantages to both choices?

I have carpet that hides everything -- the needles and pins I drop, but not the thread of bits of fabric. And it holds onto these tightly! If I could, I think I would go with wood.

I have carpet in my sewing room...hate it. Can't wait for the day I get to remodel and put tile or something in there instead.

The things I dont like about carpeting in sewing room....My chair doesn't roll easily, thread bits stick all over the carpet and are hard to get up even with the vacuum, dropping pins is a nightmare..more than one has landed pointed straight up for my foot to find.

Wood floor, carpet is a nightmare. I vote remove it. Pins and thread get lost in carpet, thread tangles in your vacuum, and dust settles deep. LOL fact is, we have NO carpeting in our house, allergens reduced. The plus side of having carpets is that you don't see the animal hair as much or the dust bunnies. Still, I vote no carpet.

We bought our house two years ago. approx 6 months after moving in, I pulled out the carpet in my sewing room and put in laminate flooring. My sewing room is on the second floor. I chose the laminate because we knew we would one day sell the house (which we are trying to do now) then need to replace the laminate back with carpet. We realized that carpet "sells" better since the room is really a bedroom. I love my laminate. I did it myself, it took me approx 1 day and was relativly inexpensive. However, If you pull up the carpet and find hard woods, i would strongly recommend refinishing those if they are in goodshape. I like my "hard surface flooring" because not only do pins not get stuck in the carpet, but it is relativly easy to clean. I just swirl a dust mop over it and then use a vacuum to get up the bits left behind. If you are worried about noise or warmth, a couple of small area rugs or mats work wonders, and are easy to clean/shake out. Also we have pets (dogs) and I hate how carpet holds onto fur. Even with vacuuming every day I can usually get a canister of fur...its unreal how much dirt and stuff carpet holds onto.

I have carpet in my sewing room and I hate it! Like Patti25313 stated, it hides all the pins and needles and all the threads and fabric get intertwined with the fibers of the carpet. Also, my hot iron has been knocked off my ironing board more than once (either by me or my Lily Pie who loves to lay on the board). I now have several places on the carpet that have the exact imprint of my iron's sole plate. I don't know what the right flooring is but I will be watching this thread!

I have carpet and I wish I had wood. But, I never will, so I walk around with fuzzy, stringy, strippy feet.Ha

I had carpet in the sewing room prior to the one I have now. My present sewing room has a hard wood floor. I much prefer the wood floor. It is much easier to keep clean and I don't have to worry about stepping on a dropped pin or needle.

Have wood and can't imagine the nightmare carpet would be.
