Cutest homemade sewing boxes!

cute tutes! Iinstead of cardboard for stability, I purchase sheets of corrugated plastic at our local home improvement store. I cut it to fit with kitchen shears for all kinds of projects needing firm sides or bottoms such as totes, soft sided luggage, and purse bottoms. I use them especially in items that I make for my family who lives in the humid southeast. cardboard does not hold up well where they live. I can't see why it wouldn't work for the storage baskets, too.

Joann's also carries the plastic by they yard in the upholstery section. Insteady of the the plastic canvas you can use the Deco bond which is also carried by both places. Walmart is usually the best price on that unless you are using a coupon at Joann's. Decor bond is also washable and to get the same stiffness you can iron it onto the main fabric and the lining. Use a denim needle when sewing it.

I found it easier to just talk to them on the phone and explain my dilemma.
