Question: if my fabric is longer than my ruler how do I proceed to cut the fabric. I'm assuming I will fold my fabric and have selvedges even but my fabric is still longer than my ruler and I'm hesitant to fold it a 2nd time--my arm isn't strong enough to cut through all that fabric. You ladies are so amazing-- I think I am addicted to this board. I look forward to reading every day. You are all so kind, encouraging and sooo helpful.

I'd fold it again and just use a lot of pressure-it really isn't that difficult if you have a sharp blade. Go slow!

The solution, really, is to get a longer ruler. A 24" ruler will cut a folded-in-half WOF with no problem. Start with 2 layers and see how that feels.

I usually fold it again, hold my ruler and cut a few inches, move my hand up the ruler and cut a few more inches. And make sure you have a sharp blade that will cut through 4 layers of fabric easily.

Thank you so much! I'm new to quilting so I really appreciate your help. I'm on my way to the fabric store to buy a new rotary cutter. On another topic-- I happened to come upon a yard sale this am and for $30.00, I brought home yards & yards of material--- way over $300.00 worth. The young lady was selling the contents from her aunt's hobby/sewing shop. My sister who is a fantastic quilter is coming tomorrow so can't wait to show her my find. Of course I have no idea what I'm going to do with it all. :)
