I got my quilt top done (need to hook up camera to laptop so I can share) & now I need to piece the backing. The size is 72 x 84 if I remember right. The print fabric was cut already for width but I need to cut a strip piece to go between. I have over 2 yrds & it is thick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

not exactly sure what you're meaning...do you need to cut a strip out of the flannel to add to what you've already got?

the backing needs to be larger than the quilt top---gets trimmed after quilting...
so...if your flannel is 44" wide(?) you could take 2- 2 1/2 yard pieces and sew them together....your back would measure 89 1/2x 871/2 (assuming using a 1/2" seam allowance) which would give you enough in both directions (more is good--you can cut off the excess after quilting and add to your stash...less is not good, you could wind up being *short* by the time it is quilted)

The backing material was cut into 2 pieces & was cut crooked so I pinned it to the back & not enough width so I was going to cut the border fabric (solid color) which is the big piece wide enough to go between the 2 pieces. Then I was going to measure again & figure out how much more of the solid I needed to for the length so it all would be at least 2 inches bigger then the front. Then I will need to figure out how to do the binding!!! I appreciate everyone's help.
