Does it matter, when sub-cutting strip sets, if you press them open first or is it ok to cut them before pressing? They seem to lay flatter before they are pressed open. Just trying to be as accurate as possible on this quilt. I am cutting them to make 4 patch sets, if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help.

I press mine before cutting. If I have a long strip, I sometimes line them up with a yardstick, before I press. This way I know they are straight and not bowed. No movement sideways, just down. Try it, whatever works for you.

I press mine but use a sleeve type ham so the fabric naturally opens the seams ... of holds the fold to the side ... whichever I use at the time.

I always try to buy a striped ironing board cover. That works too for lining up.

Great tip! I drew a line on mine with permanent marker.

Glad I'm not the only one who draws on the furniture! LOL I also have 2 sets of right angels one going left, one going right. They come in handy.

I press before cutting as well. I line up my seam with a mark on the ruler before sub cutting for accuracy.

I have found that if I press each strip to dark side as I sew then it seems to match seams easily. Also when cutting multiple strips stagger them instead of stacking them since this makes for more accurate cutting. I do not press my seams open.

I press and starch before cutting, I find the starch gives the fabric more body making it easier to handle. Soft floppy fabric can cause accuracy issues for me.
