Dear Jane A-1 Block Question

Dear Jane A-1 Block Question
Ok. I started my Dear Jane quilt some time ago, but I skipped block A-1 because I just couldn't reconcile what I saw in the picture of Jane's original block to the diagram in Brenda's DJ book. So I finally bit the bullet yesterday and graphed my own version of the block. I would like for you more experienced quilters to take a look at how I came out and see if you think it is more or less accurate than the block in Brenda's book. And yes, I know, the colors are backwards from Jane's. I want you to look at the lines in the block.

well, your points are not matching. are you hand stitching them? I would assume so. small is difficult. mark your seam allowances and try again. you will get them right yet. and pressing your seams helps too.

Look at quiltnNan's example -- the small blocks are squared, not cock-eyed. If you do 1 step at a time
doing the small blocks that make up the block and make sure they are squared, it will come together alot better.
Don't let it intimidate you.

Yes, it is hand pieced. And I know everyone else on the internet is making that inner pinwheel square, just like it is graphed in Brenda's DJ book. What I'm saying is, on the picture of Jane Stickley's original A-1 block in Brenda's book, that inner pinwheel is NOT square. And I just think she did it on purpose. And I was wondering if I was the only person who thought that.

Your block is more a a true representation of the original. Can't know what she intended but with the tools we now have we tend to make all parts more even. Square up the one you have completed and use it--I actually like that it is more like the original.

Thanks, greensleeves! Because of you, I will go to bed tonight thinking that JUST MAYBE I am not crazy!

Nope, you are not crazy. In fact, I am googling trying to find someone who has drafted A-1 in the style that Jane did it (wonky). I also want to make that block like Jane did it rather than what came with the Dear Jane software. Googling on this subject brought me to this page - LOL. I am doing the Dear Jane 2012 quilt with everyone here on the board. I'll let you know if I find something!
