Question denim circles and charm squares quilt question

Help! I want to make a denim quilt using denim circles folded to the front, similar to mock Cathederal Windows. I want to use my 5" precut charm squares inside the circles. What size do I need to cut the denim circles? Thanks.

Thanks. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the hardest to think of! Had not thought to try it with paper!

It depends on how you are going to finish your circle edges. Some people like them to fray naturally after top stitching about 1/8 from the edge. Draw your charm square on a piece of paper and the circle should be just a bit bigger so the the corners of the squares almost touch the circle edge for just the 1/8 top stitching one.

I want the edges to fringe but I thought it was supposed to be a 1/4 inch seam and did not know the circle needed to be larger for that reason. I tried Krafty-Kid's method but thought my paper circle was too big. Thought the corners of the square needed to touch the edge of the circle. Guess I'll go play with that circle and see if it will work when the edges are sewn down. hmmm.. looked on you tube but could not find a tut for using charm squares.

Your Circles have to be 6 1/2 inches

Thanks! Both are great! Yes, I see both say 6 1/2" and June Tailor says 7" circles. Guess I will try test blocks for both and see which works best for me. Thanks again.

I did see the video but not crazy about a rag quilt. Could I make the circle a little bigger then fold under the curved edge ? maybe press and tack with glue the do the figure 8 stitching.

Sounds like you want to do the regular/standard Cathederal Windows block. That one is turned under and stitched down. You make it using squares, not circles. There are lots of good tutorials for it here and on you tube.
