I have another question please, I have sized down the pattern and I would like to know what can I use in place of the batting ? It would be way to thick or do I really need to put anything in between. They willl be 12 inches instead of 28 inches

You could use flannel, or you could just tie it or 'quilt' it to hold the two pieces together (sometimes called a summer quilt).
