I've decided on a block and I was wondering if anyone knew of a speed piece method for Storm at Sea.

I'm in the middle of paper piecing and it's taken forever. I would like to make 30 blocks in 3 days. :roll:
I'm actually following this pattern. It's the 2nd one in the 2nd row.

I have never done paper piecing so I cannot give you advice on that line, but I must tell you it is a gorgeous pattern. What colors are you doing yours in?

How I do my pp if it's all the same pattern, is I work on 5 at a time, sort of an assembly line method. You could even do 10 if you want. I sew all the 5, same seam, then press, then sew the next seams, etc. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well enough, if not PM me and I'll try to explain it better. Hope this helps.

These are my colors. I have light blue and dark blue but I don't have any med blue in my stash. And i'm using a white on white. don't have enough white on cream otherwise I would have used that.
I will work on multiple blocks at a time :) I was thinking I needed to make a template so I don't waste so much fabric.
So far i'm using 2 darker fabrics and the 3 lighter fabrics.

meanwhile I ran to walmart and bought them out of stick glue :lol: it was $.15 for 2 sticks of Elmers school glue!

the center blocks will all be lighter and the outer blocks will be the darker fabric.

Nice pattern and I love your fabrics! I've only done 1 paper piecing, but loved it and bought a couple more patterns (including this one)! I would think for that pattern it would be quicker if you cut the pieces similar size to what you need and then line them up assembly line style. You can always use the scraps to do another project!

I did see somewhere that instead of getting up frequently to iron, they used a little roller like you use on the seams when wallpapering. I haven't tried that, but I bet it would save me time running back and forth as my ironing board is across the room from my sewing machine.

Sorry can't help with the speed piecing, but it looks like it should be a beautiful quilt, good luck with it.

katier825 is right, you could cut the pieces to the approximate size you need, since I'm working on my "kimono" quilt, some of the patterns are the same but different fabrics, so I don't do that. With the scraps, I plan on making a chaos crumb quilt. One of these days.LOL
