Are you meaning setting blocks on point?
Or what ?

yes. i understand howw to fiure the size of the setting blocks., but how do you know how many 10 inc blocks are in each row?

The easiest way is to sit down with a piece of graph paper and work it out. Remember a 10" block will be wider from point to point. Just measure that out and you're away to the races.

I did that tonight as I was designing a new quilt, based on this one, but changing the block size. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-122204-1.htm

Didn't take long to graph it out and do my calculations for yardage. Now I can go Stash Shopping!

don't however I thought figuring out had something do with putting it down on paper. any tutorials you can recommend?

Not sure what you mean by the first part there ... and as for tutorials, I have no clue!

I would estimate about 8 blocks for the first row; the second would have 7 since they are inset into the 8. If you are using half blocks for the insets, you would need about 107 blocks for a king size quilt... by my estimation!
