Default Difference between Juki TL 1020Q and 1020Qi

I have been looking all over and can't seem to figure out the difference between the Juki TL1020Q and the TL 1020Qi...can someone clue me in? The only difference I hsve seen in descriptions is the Qi model being"semi industrial"...and I am not sure what that means either! LOL!

I would call a Juki dealer.

Um...do you mean the 2010 models? If so, the 2010Q has an extra thread tension control which is supposed to add extra(better) thread tension and control of the thread. Other than that, it looks to be the same machine as the Qi. I've been researching myself. It looks to be $100-150 more for this feature. I would test drive both if you can to see if you notice a difference while FMQing to see if it's worth the extra money.

The Q has a sub-tension unit and speed control, but the Qi doesn't. The Qi also comes with one fewer hopping foot. I like the speed control because this machine can go REALLY fast! By turning it down, I get better control than just trying to push down the right amount on my foot pedal.

Yes! I am sorry, I'm typing on my phone and have three small children here...none in good moods! :-) Yes I mean 2010 Q versus 2010Qi....and I did find that the 2010 Q seems to come with a handful more feet. I am wondering if that sub tensioner is going to be more headache than help...

IMHO the extra tension is not necessary. You are not in a factory setting blasting through fabric at 1500 stitches a minute. I have looked at all the machines that are basically the same machine but 'Badged' with different names, Juki TL98, 2010, and 2010QI, Brother 1300, 1500, and 1500S, Janome 1600 DB, and DBX, and to be honest if you take away the extra features, or the so called special features, all the machines are the same. They are made in the same factory by the same company. Now - whether the manufacturer is Juki, Janome, or Brother, is anyone's guess. I'm going with Brother.

Go with the one whose features and warranty you can live with. I went with Brother PQ1500S because I believe they are the manufacturer of the machine and because it came with an excellent warranty.

Thanks for this! I do a lot of free motion quilting - I have an APQS long arm but I wanted a back up/detail machine without popping for a full on sit down long arm or second long arm. I'm planning to look for a used Gracie frame after the Holidays to put this in. I also wanted a domestic for free motion quilting smaller items on that goes Fast!!! LOL I actually ordered the machine already - I thought it was a 2010Q but then later realized it was a 2010Qi - and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything I really wanted to have right out the gate. I think I can live without that sub-tension...I know Sharon Schamber uses the TL-98 in her videos and it does not have that second tension set up...and she still raves about it's great tension. My main wants in a machine were All metal, No computer, and speed so I think this fits the bill. Thanks!!! I'm so excited!!!!

Congrats on your Juki purchase! I have the older TL98Q and just Love it for FMQ. I don't really feel any need for the additional tensioning disc.

Awesome that is Great to know! Can I ask what foot you use for FMQ? The machine I ordered comes with the 1/5"quilting foot...should I spring for the 1/4" foot or even Sharon Schamber's Juki foot?
