A question for those of you who've used both of these machines: is the Horizon a big step up in terms of how complex it is to use? I have a Janome 4800 and have been considering a 6600 for some time. When the Horizon came out, I looked at it but it seemed so big and daunting that I've stayed with the 6600 as my dream machine. Now, seeing all the positive comments about the Horizon, I'm wondering if I should reconsider, especially given the bigger quilting area. Do you think it has a steeper learning curve than the 6600, or are they pretty similar in terms of set up and use for piecing and FMQ?

I was dead set on upgrading to the 6600, then I realized the throat was too small and decided the Horizon was what I needed. I am going to go with the 7700, which is not as steep of a step as the 12000.

I am interested in this too. I've had a 6600 for about 3 years and absolutely LOVE it. However, I need another big machine while "Edward" is being serviced, so that I 'm not out of work for 3 weeks. Instead of getting another 6600 (which would be fine, it is a dream machine), I'm considering the Horizon, or even jumping brands and looking at Husquvarna or something else. Bernina is out of my price range and I need something I can squeeze a queen sized quilt through. I'll be lurking : )

I have a 6500 and 11000 and love them both. I eyed the 7700 aka Horizon, but . . .
IMHO Janome is very user friendly. The only draw back that I can think of is the weight, the 6500, 6600 and 11000 weigh approx 25 lbs. I am not sure about 7700 but is would assume that it is about the same. Also the 'size' can make it difficult to transport, I had to purchase a a larger machine tote ($$) not just one of the standard/cheaper ones.

I say GO FOR IT, you can't go wrong.

Weight isn't really an issue - I have a Featherweight, or might keep the 4800 for classes. Once I'd staggered up to the attic with a new machine, it wouldn't have to be moved very far!
The 4800 hasn't been problem-free, and for a while I'd decided that I didn't want another Janome, but there's no denying that, apart perhaps from Bernina, which I can't afford, they do seem to get more positive comments than any other brand.

I just bought the Horizon. I do not think that I will be taking that machine to classes. I do not want to hurt my back lifting it around. I now need to sit down and get use to using a computerized machine.

I don't think you'll ever regret buying the Horizon 7700. If you are familiar with Janome, then it won't be difficult to operate the Horizon. It isn't so hard to get used to for anyone, but any classes or help from an instructor is very helpful. Go for it!

I'm going to have to visit a shop after Christmas and spend some time playing with both the Horizon and the 6600. The key question for me is whether I can do FMQ on them without the tension going awry, and if they'll cope with a range of threads for FMQ, as those have been the big problem with my Janome. (and no, it's not just operator error -2 very experienced quilters have tried and failed too, and the machine has been in and out of the shop for years).

Just Me...

As a former Janome dealer, all I can say is this. If you are going to use it just for sewing and piecing, go with the 6600. If you are going to use it to also do quilting, bite the bullet and go with the 7700. Too many great new features for quilting....you won't be sorry.

I have the 6600 and also a Husqvarna Sapphire which I end up using the most often. For some reason I gravitate towards my viking even tho I do love my Janome too
