Hi Everybody! I have searched the archives on this board and I can't find this topic; but what is a nickel quilt? Does that refer to the size of the squares? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have heard of them and there is a book about nickel quilts but sorry I don't know the author. Maybe your local Joann's or Quilt shop would have it. Marge

the layer cakes are called dimes
their is a quilt call a nickle and dime
you sew the charms in center of layer cake cut in to 4ths and re-assemble after you mix them up

I have the first Nickle Quilts book. They are quite scrappy. The premise is that you start with 5-inch squares and subcut to create the block pieces. The authors recommend cutting your scraps as you finish projects to five inch sqares and you'll soon have lots of scraps to work on a quilt. Of course, you can do a swap for squares or purchase fabric or charm packs.
