Several days ago someone asked about a quilting motif for a "tube type" design. Here is what I did.
I made a tube quilt with the intention of quilting in the ditch around the areas. When I got ready to quilt discovered that since I had pressed all seams open there was no ditch to quilt in. I made a 4 patch small wallhanging so quilted 1/4" away from the seam line. It worked for the small piece. For the larger piece - 1 Jelly Roll size (about 40"x50")(again no ditch) I have selected a design that I can quilt with the walking foot - specifically SCL-015-09 from www.quiltingstencils.com. It is their design "Pinwheel & Squares" I probably will modify the design so the square will quilt over the curved portion of the design.
I didn't follow my own advice to be thinking about how it will be quilted as the piecing is being done. Pressing the seams open made joining the squares easier and more accurate but then caused a change in quilting motif
