I have started to label mine. Using a small piece of the quilt fabric, I write who I made it for and then my name, month and year it was finished and the state I live in. I embroider this info on the fabric using my embroidery machine and then I finish the edges nice and sew it by hand to the back corner of the quilt.

I have put labels on a couple quilts. I am trying to do better. Right now my printer in a contrary mood and has decided it doesn't want to feed any thing at all through it. After the holidays, I will be getting a new printer.

Here is a sample of a label used on my grandsons' quilt.

"Barbara’s Antique Quilt"
Made with love
For my Grandsons
Tommy and Andrew
By Grandma Barbara
May it always keep you
Warm and Safe
Summerfield, FL
Christmas 2008

Barbara's Antique Quilt is the name of the pattern--not me.

I make my labels on my embroidery machine. Really adds a nice touch.

Barbara

i've been finishing quilt tops made by others. I also made teddybears out of quilts that my grandmother made. I put gift tags on the teddy bears that said something to the effect of:

I am made from quilts made by Alta ****(Born: 1/1/1895; Died: 12/25/1944) married to Harry *** on 00/12/00. Given to son,Richard 'Hank'***(born 00/00/00) Made by grandaughter and niece Becky ****** (born 4/11/00)

I then signed my name and dated it.

I include as much family history because it is my hope w/ what i am currently working on, that these things will be passed down to future generations after I am long gone.

btw - there was enough of the tattered quilts remaining from my grandmother that i was able to get 5 teddybears - one for my mom & each of her 4 brothers.

I didn't label the only two quilts I've completed, but I want to label future quilts. Particulary the more unique ones like my video game inspired quilts. Several members in my family always say something like "100 years from now is anyone going to care?" when it comes to stuff done on a daily basis, but I like to think that maybe my Zelda sea map and stained glass series will last the test of time and someone 100 years from now will find interest in them.
