Do you wash your quilts after finishing them - as in finsished the binding ready for use now)? I do. Having the starch dust etc from working nthe quilt, washing seems to refresh it.
I also wash by SOAKING for 10 minutes in warm sudsy water, draining the wash water, then on rinse to soak for another 10 minutes. do the rinse/soak twice. Put in dryer until just about totally dry. So far it has worked very well. I started quilting in 1965 - so that is a long track record for washing quilts

they get washed before they leave the house..a little bit of perfume free detergent, luke warm water..
in the dryer for about 15 minutes, then i bring it out and hang it up.
i use color catchers in the wash, because i do not prewash my fabrics.

I do not pre-wash, but I do wash my finished quilts. I wash them in hot water, with detergent, Retayne to lock the dyes and a Color Catcher to keep fugitive dyes from staining. Then I put in the dryer. I want to completely shrink them before their final destination! Never had a problem.
