Default Does anyone know how to do a double stacked dresden plate?

I saw a picture of a Dresden plate that had a second smaller plate on the top of it and it was really pretty. I tried to get instructions for it but couldn't. I am wanting to know if you make two plates, one smaller than the other, then layer them but how do you sew them down? Or is it a smaller plate with larger partial blades underneath it? If anyone ones how to do this, please advise? And thanks so much in advance.

I've made several with 2 plates. When layering the plates, you can line up the seams or place the smaller plate with the point in the center of the larger plate. I basted the larger plate to the background first at the inside point of the "V" and around the circle. You can do this by hand or machine (small zigzag) I then placed the small plate on top and basted it in the same way.

Since mine were wall hangings, I made my sandwich and stitched in the ditch of every plate seam to "hold them down".

This link shows 3 layers of plates. She doesn’t tell how she put it together, but if you look at the second picture, you can see how her quilting holds it all together:

This is a link to a pattern that looks like a double Dresden plate but isn’t. She made the points on both ends of the plate to create the illusion of double plates:

I don't think I've ever seen a double before, but they sure are nice looking! I wonder how heavy it makes the quilt with all that extra fabric.

Everyone thanks for your help. I think I get the idea now and hopefully it will look as good as the picture on the magazine cover! Thanks again.
