Question Does anyone use polyester batting?

I have some and wonder if it is a wise choice in a quilt, I know to hand quilt it is. I have used both warm and natural and the polyester. My question is does it last through washing. The ones I have used it on have only been washed a couple of times. I would think the loftiness of it goes away some. Any opinions? I cleaned my closet and found some I had picked up, my goal to use up what I have.

I will use a blend....like Hobbs 80/20...but most of the time use cotton...probably just a personal preference, but it just feels cozier and softer to me. But if you already have some, go ahead and use what you have!

Nope, don't use it any more. I did years ago, but all of the quilts I made with poly have lost their stuffing over the years.

After thinking about this one, this is a redwork quilt and I have had put in a fair bit of work, between the redwork and then the blocks and border that I put on it. Think I will stop today and pick up enough Hobbs 80/20. And rather save the other for something else that is less labor intensive. Or that is what I am thinking. See you can only clean out things so much.

just a little something to think about - if you have done redwork, it's probably on white fabric, hobbs 80/20 is usually natural in color in the stores around here. It will show through your fabric. If you haven't tried Quilters Dream batting, try it sometime. the cotton (100%) quilts like butter and the poly is very nice as well. Dream Angel will not burn and it is my choice in all my baby quilts. The fabric on the outside may burn, but I know I can pop it over a baby and the batting will give at least some protection on a quick trip out the door. I use Dream Angel in my own quilts as I plan to use it over my body on the way out the door too. Hope I never have to experience a fire. Oh yes, I am in no way affiliated with Dream Cotton products, just a long time user who has never been disappointed in the quality.

I do think quilts are cuddlier, but just not sure on longevity. Although at this point in time, I will be too old to care when that happens. lol

I've used it in the past; no trouble holding up through many washings.
The fabric, all cotton, has worn out in places though.

I use whatever batting is appropriate for the quilt I am making. If I want the crinkled look or a lighter quilt, then I use an 80/20 blend. If I want a smoother look or a warmer quilt, then I will use Hobbs poly. I think poly requires more quilting to keep it in place and looking nice, but that is just me.

I use poly-batting when any shrinking is going to be a -very bad thing- otherwise I like Hobbs 80/20 or Warm and Natural.

I live in Florida and cold weather is a mere nuisence for days rather than months. Keeping warm not an issue. I've given most away as gifts and haven't had any feedback. But for me, poly is "weigh" to go.
