My sister went to New Zealand in November and brought me back fabric for Christmas. One of the pieces has a bird on a branch. In the U.S.A., you frequently find cardinals on pine branches or chickadees in holly bushes. So, I am just wondering if this represents a real N.Z. bird and bush. It doesn't show up well in the photo, but the bird's breast is a reddish orange.

It looks as if it could be a New Zealand Fantail :-)

Definitely a New Zealand fantail. Google New Zealand fantail pics.

That's gorgeous fabric. I'd have a hard time cutting it up!

I don't know the name of the bird, but it looks like some I saw in NZ

Thanks everyone! It definitely appears to be a fantail (also known as a piwakawaka)!
