Ginger - it does look like rick rack! I did more searches using rick rack log cabin and sawtooth log cabin and nothing exactly came up.

The corners do come together in pinwheels where blocks meet, so long as I am careful. I'm off now to make a few more blocks!

I used your picture in Google Image search and it could not find anything remotely like it. I guess you have created a NEW block. That happens so rarely, and I am glad for you. Now, how are you going to use it in a quilt? Are you going to rotate the colors so you have all four at every side? Or match up the colors? Or use a sashing between blocks? Of course, none of this has to be decided until you get your blocks made.

I have seen this before in a book and I think could have been a older book with log cabin variations. It's a great block! I remember the the layout as having all the darker points of the hst going one way or opposite like you have them.

How did you make that? What pieces did you piece together? It's very eye-catching!

I was editing my post as I was posting the quilt I drew in EQ and it timed me out. Sorry that there wasn't an explanation with it. I was looking at quilt possibilities and this one really appealed to me. It looks a lot like Japanes lanterns.

That's a super cool block and I look forward to seeing what you make with it!

Barb, thanks for drawing it out like that! I have it sketched, but seeing it graphically sure makes it pop.

I called mine "embellished" log cabin because I used a snowball square to embellish the ends of opposing logs rather than all corners.
Let's see if a decent graphic comes up....

You are welcome. I like how it turned out too.

It looks good, but I've never seen it before.
