    Double Batting question

I,m using Hobbs 80-20 batting and want to double it.
My question is, do you spray in between the battings, (I,m using
basting spray), or will that make it difficult to sandwich.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm curious too. Never thought of spray basting them together.

Basting them together should not be necessary, they will cling to each other on their own
hiding away in my stash where i'm warm, safe and happy

I haven't done this, but I would lightly spray between the two battings to make sure they don't shift away from each other. Cotton likes to grab cotton, so I would keep the spray really light.

It shouldn't make it more difficult to sandwich; you just have to make sure you use a good technique -- the standard one, where you position first, then peel back the top half, spray only the top half, smooth the peeled back portion back, then peel back the bottom half and do the same. If you try to spray the entire batting and then position the other batting on top, I can guarantee a huge mess!

The brand of basting spray you use might make a difference. After trying several brands, I use only 505 now. Have heard that the new Therm-o-Web is also very good.

I always ask for double batting when I have my quilts quilted by any LA. None have ever said they had to baste the two battings together. I don't when I do machine quilting at home.

I have used double battings on 3 quilts, I lightly sprayed between because I didn't want anything to shift, I have no problems.

Does using double batting make it fluffier? Like a comforter of just heavier??

I used double poly battings for extra warmth and spray basted inbetween....since the quilt was 100x100, I didn't want any slippage....worked perfectly!

I have used a double batting when I long arm quit. One was cotton and the other poly. I put the Cotton on the bottom and the poly on top. they seem to stay together well and I haven't had any problem quilting them.

I just finished double batting one, and I did not spray or baste them together. The battings "clung together and I had no trouble quilting it...it was about 36 x 28.
