Sooooo... I was wondering which do you prefer- double binding or single binding on a non-childs quilt??

I have a quilt for my mom but I only have enough for a single binding..will it withstand less than normal wear??

I only use the double fold. One of my first quilts is well-loved and much washed. It is starting to show the wear in the binding. Had it been a single fold, it would be ratty by now I'm sure.

you might consider backing your single with muslin to give it some stability. Single fold does not wear well.

I only use double also...but if you don't have enough and don't mind extra bulk in the binding area, get a coordinating fabric and stitch it to the fabric you have then proceed with the double binding procedure, making sure that the extra fabric is enclosed in the inside where it's not seen. The extra bulk is created by the seam when you stitch the two fabrics together...it will help the bulk if you press the seam open...

I wouldn't think of using single binding!! After all the work I put into a quilt, I sure don't want it to start wearing out right away on the binding!
