Thinking of making a Crazy Quilt. Love Judy Montano's book

What kind of embellishments do you use to accent your crazy quilt blocks.

I am finding tons of different trims, zig zag, binding tape, yarn, ribbons etc looking through mom's things

What kind of embellishments have you used?

I have only used decorative stitches on my machine because I want to use it as a throw (lots of dogs heavy use).:)

I saw one done with velvets in large squares and rectangles. It was used as a tablecloth. Do you think that would work? I really want to do one because it just looked so elegant in that picture but could it be washed. Would it stretch too much? I just don't know but may have to give it a try. Maybe I should put a stabilizer on the back.

I took a class with Judy Montano years ago. She had things hanging all over the room. She used all of the things you mentioned. Beads, doilies, pictures on fabrics, different yarns and threads and anything you could think of. Her work was beautiful. I bought two or three of her books. I would really like to get into this so I could have a traveling project I could grab and take with me.

Are you sure it was velvet and not velveteen? On the reservation lots of the women wore velveteen dresses and washed them now and then. Still looked good for a long time. But I think it stretches, could be backed with muslin and used in small patches. I have a lovely deep blue skirt that I might do something like that with, the lovely thing must have shrunk in the wash over the years. Or maybe it was me, doing just the opposite.
