I recently bought a can of Dritz Basting Spray at the local Walmart. I FMQ my quilt and when ready to quilt the border I sprayed the backing, batting and border. Big mistake...I waited until the next day to start FMQ and to my surprise my needle kept sticking. The spray was still sticky. I had sprayed lightly. I tried to remove the spray with a moist cloth...didn't work. I put the quilt in the washing machine on cool water...spray didn't come out. I then ran it through a hot water wash.. I have never seen such a mess...finally ended up cutting the border off and just put a binding on. On a trip to Walmart this afternoon I noticed they still had a few cans of the Dritz on display. When I went back to Walmart and told the clerks about my experience and suggested that they inform their patrons about it they must have forgot to do so because they still had a few cans on display today. Please be aware that this spray is unacceptable. I can just see someone using this on a special quilt and it being ruined.

I bought some Tailor Quilt basting spray at Joanns with a 60 percent off coupon recently and it says on the can (improved Formula). I used it on a quilt this week and table runner and it worked fine. I like the 505 spray and Joann's does not carry that brand.

I have tried the Dritz and June Tailor brands and had many issues with the needle getting gummed up. I spray lightly, in a grid about 6-8" apart. Since I switched to the 505 spray I have not had that issue. Yes it is a little more expensive, but for me it's worth it because I'm not having issues every 5 minutes when quilting. Watch for sales. I just got the large size can for $15.99 at Nancy's Notions. I think it normally goes for about $22. The June Tailor cost me about $13 at Joann's. Some things are worth spending a little extra on if it makes it that much more enjoyable to do.

if you want people who shop at walmart to know you do not like a specific product you can visit their website & leave a review. the employees have no (power) to put up warnings---unless their is a re-call...an employee would face loosing their job if they did what you asked & in this economy not many are looking to loose their job over a can of spray.
posting reviews is really the best way to let others know there is a problem---and of course reading reviews when checking out new products will save you some time, money & heart ache in the future.

I have had good luck with June Tailors spray. I get it at Walmarts and its a lot cheaper and not gumming up my needle.

I have used the Dritz brand without the issues you experienced. Maybe they are old cans? I have never, not had it come out with washing either. I sometimes have useable size trimmings and wash or soak them to remove the spray, with complete success.

I know lots of people use the 505 spray, but I refuse to spend that much money. I tried the June Tailor and it was ok, also tried the Dritz and got 2 bad cans (wouldn't spray). That was the end of spray basting for me. I have just finished my first quilt using liquid school glue and love the results. It's easy, no fumes, no messy overspray, very cheap and will hold until you wash it out. I now know what I will use for all future basting!

Hate to spoil your fun ladies, but have been using 505, Dritz, and/or June Taylor basting spray for the past 5 years with No Problems, except that I cannot use it when I use the tables at my quilt shop to sandwich a quilt. I also use the sprays to stick my fabric to the hooped stabilizer for machine embroidery. I have never had a problem with the needle gumming up! I bought 13 cans of June Taylor spray on sale for 50% off back when Walmart eliminated fabric from one of the stores in my town. It still works just fine. If it gums up your needle I suspect you are using way too much. You should not see a puddle on your fabric.

The first quilt I used spray basting on, I used Dritz. I found a couple of cans in a cupboard, which means it could have been 10 years old. It worked fine, and washed out without any problem. I didn't notice any problem with the needle either. I wonder what caused the problem that you had. I prefer 505 spray, but will use any of them. I do only spray a very light film. I wonder if you used too much.

I agree. I use it all the time and at Walmart it is cheaper than Joann's with a 50% off coupon.
