I just tried my first DP using Missouri Star Quilt's easy tutorial. I guess it's cheating but it worked. No quilt yet but the blocks were done quickly and easily (except for the one I stitched on the back of the fabric!). Lots of other good suggestions here, one will surely work for you.

Whatever method you use to cut the pieces, make sure the straight line sides of the wedge pieces are on grain. It will save you untold hours of frustration later on.

The easiest way I have found to do them is to cut two strips of fabric, one the unfinished width of the 'L' shape and one wide enough for the unfinished curve. It guaranttes everything will be on grain and there is minimal waste. I make my own templates out of template plastic, two pieces, with the seam allowances included.

The prep work is everything, but it is SO worth it. Curves are easy to sew, so don't let that fear get the best of you.

Check out Sewing with Nancy. I just watched a program where she made a Drunkard's Path using a template. She made it look extremely easy.

Sewing with Nancy has a program on Drunkards path. Makes it ease as fusible is used and full circles, most of fusible is cut away when it is turned, sewn and cut and resewn.
