How many dye their own fabric and what is the best method.

Tea dyeing is the only method I have used other than ritz dye in years past on childrens clothes when they were stained.

i dye fabric every week, some times a few times a week.

a few people have sent me PMs on the topic and this is a copy of the message i send to them........

i buy my PFD from joanne's online when they have 50% coupons.

i buy the Kona Cotton 58/60 inch wide, i prefer the quality and hand of it over the 44 inch wide plus i can use it for hand dyed backing fabric.

here's a link

http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/p...RODID=prd29525

then i buy my dye from dharma trading, i keep 11 colors in stock all the time and from those 11 colors i can mix any color under the sun that i want.

the colors are

lemon yellow, turquoise, fuchsia red, golden yellow, cobalt, chinese red, kelly green, deep orange, grape, black, and new black.

here's a link to the dye i use

http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/en...lnav=dyes.html

then the best book to buy for knowing the formulas for 900+ colors is the fabric dyer's dictionary. it gives you a color swatch and the recipe to make that color

here's a link to the book

Thank you so much I did not expect and answer so quickly. I have just ordered the book you suggested and looked at fabric and dye colors. I will purchase those next week. Thanks again.

here's 24 FQs i made yesterday for a basket quilt i'll be making with 30s and feedsack fabric.

these will be the scrappy blender fabrics.

all i used was the fabric from joann's, the dye from dharma, and the recipe book.
