I measured both length and width thru the center of the quilt. Now I am easing in the borders. My question is which way to stitch it. With the excess of fabric down towards the feed dogs? Seems to me the lower fabric would pull a little faster than the upper fabric resulting in a more even easing. Am I correct?

HaHaHa! What a WONDERFUL way to remember this technique! Have not heard this before. I also use this during block construction and sewing blocks together.

On almost every quilt I make, I have to ease the quilt into the border. When I pin it, I think I will have puckers; but the feed dogs do their job and my borders turn out great. Yes, my excess fabric is toward the feed dogs.

The fabric that's being eased in should be against the feed dogs

Are you easing excess border or excess quilt top? I always sew my borders on with the quilt top next to the feed dogs. Helps prevent wavy borders.
