It depends. For machine embroidered blocks, I do the embroidery first on over size pieces of fabric then cut them to size and piece the quilt top. For quilting with my embroidery machine, first I do STID on the whole top with my sewing machine, then do the quilting designs with the embroidery machine.

I almost always get my designs from www.emblibrary.com
I love the fact that once you get an account, you can redownload any at any time....and they will tell you if you've already bought that design!
