Thanks Lalaland - I'm glad to hear that the black&white screen has never been an issue. I have never owned an embroidery machine so I need a lot of help to make sure I'm able to do what I want, which is mostly quilting my quilts.

You've already gotten some great advice and recommendations but I'll throw another one in the mix. Look at the Brother Designio 820. It's the same machine as the PE770, just dressed up a bit and it comes with more hoops and other accessories that make it well worth the higher price than the PE770. Another brand to look at is the Janomes. I have the MC200e and the MC350e and love them both.

Consider what your budget is, than go with the machine that
has the LARGEST embroidery size within your budget. For a
Brother machine that might only be a 5x7 but I don't know
this for sure.
I have several friends who purchased Brother PE700 series
machines and LOVE them.
Both of my machines are combo machines, but I love having
the option to use either of them as a sewing machine if I need.
