I need some advice please. I am entering a quilt or two into a local quilt show in November. I am told that I need to make a sleeve for the back of my quilt and either sew it on or pin it on....this is for hanging it on the rods. Which works better or y'all? What size "loop" do you usually make? I've never entered a quilt in a show before. This is my main entry and since this pic was taken it has been bound and quilted.
Thanks for your help ahead of time...

They should be at least 4 inches - and that's a magnificent quilt!

Here's the link to the AQS (Paducah) requirements:

I actually do it so I don't have to turn it inside out - I just put that seam against the back of the quilt (but I think I'm going to change my method).

But you get the general idea. ;-)

I do like how her method gives the extra room for the rod/dowel.

I love Bonnie - she really covers all the bases in that video - the poof, sewing down the sides, etc.

Good luck in the show

I make a lot of banners.....I have made my tube, turned it inside out and used Heat and Bond Ultra....but I am thinking that will not hold a heavy bedsize quilt....i would make the tube and very carefully hand sew on.....as you may want to remove latter...but at least you will have the option

OMG, your quilt is gorgeous! Surely a winner.

First you need to find out the minimum size of the sleeve, the quilt show will tell you.

The shows I have entered it is a 6" sleeve so i make a tube out of 12 1/2" of fabric by the width of the quilt less a few inches.

I always sew my sleeve on. If the quilt is already bound I put the top part of the sleeve up against my binding line. I use the same stitch I would use for applique and my binding and I check the front constantly to make sure my stitches are only going into the batting and not coming through the front of the quilt.

Good luck in the show and have fun! I love, love, love your quilt.

Your quilt is a WINNER!

The shows I have entered request a 4" sleeve. Above someone mentioned 6". I would check with the show host to find out what size they require. Just double the required plus add seam allowance.

Good luck at the show.
