For the sewing section:

Work surfaces for machines and sewing
Cutting island (under the counter top I will hang my scissors and rotary cutters)
Shelves for fabric tubs
Ruler rack
Storage for buttons, threads,
Book shelf for magazines and quilt books.
Storage for batts and backing.
And I am going to use an armoire for storing WIPS and quilts waiting for new homes.

Have I missed anything?
This room is starting from scratch. It is large and has two closets. I am also using the room for painting and scrapbooking and I am putting in a desk and filing cabinet dedicated to DH's part-time business. Any suggestions for these other hobby areas would be appreciated too!

Thanks folks!

Lori

Lori-Lighting is important. Plan it out as you plan your room.

A place for your ironing board.

How about a cozy place to sit to do hand work or look at quilting books and magazines?

A design wall is great to have if you can spare the wall space.

I also have a TV in my quilt room--sometimes nice to have "company".

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head

Lighting... gotcha
Ironingboard... dang I forgot it!
Cozy place to sit... my husband will never see me again!
Design wall... wicked! Thanks!
TV... definitely! On top of the armoire should work fine!

Thanks Marcia!

A place to store all your threads. My DH made me one and now I can find all my threads easily.

Can I come and play, I have to use the spare bedroom and I am fast growing out of it.

I'm going to wait until she gets it all done and posts pictures. Then I'm going to go and play :)

Now that would be really cool!

What are you doing this weekend Lori?

"Well my quilting friends from Guam and Spain are dropping by to play in my sewing room!"

At the rate I am packing the old room ( I have to switch out all the STUFF in the little room, store it some where so we can transform the tiny room into a guest room... guests need just little spaces to be happy right?... and then move bedroom furniture into small room from big room and THEN start to make a craft room), I would think you guys should book your tickets to Newfoundland for maybe Easter!

I want to come play too-I don't take up much room! I think you should post "progress" photos as you go along--just to keep us drooling! :-) I cannot wait to see the finished product!!!

OK! Maybe having these pictures displayed for all the quilting world to see will motivate me!!

Here are the two rooms... as they are today! As you can see I have had to go up the walls as far as possible to get room. I have a desk topped by a book shelf in one corner! Ludicrous and possibly dangerous!

This is the teeny tiny room that now houses all my craft things.

This is the bigger room that I am moving into. The colors stay as is. As do the sunflower border and curtains
