I have been considering purchasing EQ but right now with christmas around the corner I cant justify it. This morning while at a garage sale, I took a set amount of money with me, noticed an EQ4 sitting on a table so I asked about it and how much. She said it was 10 or negotiable. I said I only have 5 left of what I brought with me to spend and got it for $5. I was worried on the way home as it says for Windows 95/98 but worked ok in my laptop with Windows 7 in it. Now that I have played with it some I am thinking about the upgrade. Can anyone tell me any differences the upgrades have please?
Thanks

The best place to go find out about the newest features of the program would be the EQ site itself. www.electricquilt.com
I never had EQ4 I started with EQ5... so not sure what improvements there have been over 4... but I do know that each time they upgrade it.. it has awesome new features in it.

I was given both EQ4 and EQ5, and honestly can't remember what the difference was. I think it's all in how much you use it. I only use mine to draft up quilts, and don't really care that I'm not using the same exact fabrics. You definitly got your monies worth for $5!

I also reccomend that you go to EQ and look at the videos there describing the difference between the versions. They have them for versions 5,6 and 7.

EQ7 is an awesome new upgrade from EQ6, with a lot of new features for designing, bringing in and using fabric images, etc. It's so good that many pattern designers are using it for new pattern designs and never actually doing the quilt top.

However, the EQ7 upgrade only works if you have EQ6 installed. You can get an upgrade from EQ5 to EQ7 but I think you have to go through the company to get it, I haven't seen it on any retail sites.

The only way to upgrade EQ4 to EQ7 would be to find all of the appropriate upgrade packs. I'm not sure if there was an upgrade from 4 to 5, but if there was, you might find one on ebay or someplace like that.

By the time you did that, you might be better off getting a good deal someplace on a new version and starting off fresh.

Here's a "back of box" image from our website that talks about the new features in EQ7:

EQ4 has the quilt design basics that 5, 6, and 7 has. You will be limited in the advanced and special tools and easier design construction. If I remember right you can't search for a specific block in 4, you have to look through them all and you can't move the printable parts to fit the print out. You got a great bargain for EQ4.

Until EQ6 came along, I found previous versions somewhat cumbersome and confusing. EQ6 changed everything. So if you can at least find a way to get to that stage, I recommend it to preserve your sanity. I have upgraded to EQ7 and can't begin to tell you how much I LOVE it!
