I was so captivated by a quilt I saw on this board that I was determined to figure out how to make the blocks and create the quilt with my EQ7.

I could see that each 8x8 megablock consisted of 64 small squares, but the megablock could also be broken down into four identical 4x4 blocks (when you rotate them they make up the megablock).

So...I constructed the 4x4 blocks in EQ7, and placed them nicely in the quilt, rotating 3 of every 4 to get the desired look. All good. But then I wanted to add sashing, but between the megablocks, not the 4x4 blocks.

I can't figure out how to do this.

Thought I might be able to create a new block, the megablock, by somehow merging four 4x4 blocks. Is there a way to do that?

Any other ideas?

I think you will have to create the large block and then add the sashings around it. I haven't found another way to do this, so I will be watching to see if I am wrong  :D:D:D

When I try to add sashing in the Layout part, it puts it between ALL the blocks, not just between the megablocks. Perhaps I have to start over?

I think you have to create the mega block as a single block. However I AM not sure about that because I have just gotten my EQ.

I have EQ6 so can not tell you exact keystrokes but I clearly understand what your issue is .

There is a way to Create a large block from multiple small blocks by copying them and pasting into a larger block. Also, look in the help menu - in EQ6 there is an option under Serendipity to merge blocks - I am sure that 7 has a similar option. In 6 you can merge 4 at a time so it may take you some playing around to get what you want.

You might have to treat the sashing around the mega block as a very long and narrow block and most likely will have to assemble the top on Layer 2 where your blocks are free floating. I'd have to see the image you were original using to give you a better idea of where to go. EQ is great, but some of the things are not totally intuitive or well documented I've found.

Just informational, but there is a dedicated EQ section on the board just for questions like this one :-)
