My sister decided to rent a booth at the Pueblo Quilt Expo last weekend. We had never done anything like that before, but by the end of the weekend, she had sold over $2500 worth (sold out!) and I met so many wonderful ladies. My feet have never been so sore though. My sister and I went on less than five hours sleep two nights in a row because we had to drive back to her house, two hours away, to restock! It was wonderful, but if we do it again, we will be better prepared.

I know one retired couple who travel the quilt show circuit all year long to vend. I would love to do that for awhile.

She was selling quilt fabric organizers. She also sold quilting bumper stickers and signs.

I have my entire sewing room organized because of her! Anyway, we set up Friday morning and by noon realized we needed to go back home that evening and restock. Another vendor ended up buying us out so she could sell our merchandise at another expo.

Oh.. that same lady who bought all the organizers also saw some of my quilts that I designed and asked if I would let her market my patterns. She wants me to write patterns for her company. I would make $500.00 a pattern that she markets. I am seriously thinking about it. (My sister thinks that I should sell them at our booth instead, but I don't want to have to print them and get them into envelopes. Not only that, but I won't have the exposure in order to get them sold.)

Congrats MistyMarie!! That is wonderful!
I'm with you on the pattern sales ...except maybe you would want some kind of residual payment too?
Do you have pictures of your sewing room to show us?

Though, a website may be sufficient exposure. I'm not sure $500 is actually a good deal...for all the hours of work writing and drafting it up. If it's a hot seller at $9-$12 a pop then I don't know if $500 is adequate. It may be worth giving it a go with your sister and put them on a website. If it works out that you don't want to continue you can always fall back on the offer. That's wonderful news!

I'm with all of the above. $500 doesn't seem like much when considering the alternatives. Have faith in yourself!! Go for it!!! :-D
