Looking for ideas. I have a finished (quilted) square quilt that is perfect for the guest bed. The side to side length is fine. I would like to extend the length of this quilt by about 6 inches so it covers the mattress and has enough at the foot of the bed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is it a quilt that you could just add a row of blocks to lengthen? Strips across the top and bottom that work with the colors is another choice. You could do borders narrow on the sides and wide on the ends.

I tried extending the width and length of a quilt without good results. The quilt was birthed, so there wasn't a binding to remove and easily extend the quilt, I just sewed it on the outside of the quilt. I ended up taking off the extension and using them to make a new quilt. If I had to do it again, I would rip out the envelope (edge) seam(s) and add more blocks or borders, zigzag or loosely whipstitch additional batting to the existing batting, and add borders on the back, too. I'm sure it can be done. I just didn't do it right.

If the quilt is square, put it on the di-angle on the bed, it will look cute.

It is already quilted and bound. I might be able to add a quilted strip at the top.

birthed quilts are usually tied. you could add a row of blocks and put that area under the pillows (which you made matching shams for). good luck. have fun. diagonal quilts look good on the bed too though.
