The idea of this moritorium is to clear out your stash and save money.
It will also clear out some space in your sewing area and you may discover treasures you forgot you had.

The rules are simple: No new fabric purchases until November 2012.
You can buy:
batting
backing and/or binding
fabric - if NOTHING in you stash will work. (Consider trading with a friend)
thread and notions
fabric purchased on a plan (example - block of the month)

Some can do variations such as only 3 months, or a GREAT sale.
Anyone can join.

Come on and clear out some of that stash and make room for great new fabrics next year.

I just got back from Mary Jo's ... I knew a few months ago I would get to go while visiting family for the holidays . I need to do this ! My suitcase could hardly be lifted!

I'm in but not sure how I'm going to do, Sew Expo is comming in March and my Quilt buddie and I have plans for some weekend trips this summer. I have to get my stash under control!! I'm tired of having to run all over the house to see if I have something that will work, and moving an pawing through all these bins is just not working for me. I have an old china hutch, 5 shelves 5 foot long,and some wall cabnets, 4 shelves 6 foot long full to. would like to get it worked down to just them. Oh ya and I hav 2 LG chest drawers upstairs in guest room I'd like to get empty of fabric too. I WILL NOT BUY FABRIC, WILL NOT BUY FABRICK, NOT BUY FABRIC, BUY FABRIC,---wait a min. let me try that again!!!!! LOL well I will try.

I am in. Clearing out the UFOs (especially the ones for ME), cutting up stash pieces with Accuquilt membership I bought in 2011, and getting the stash under control. Fortunately, I have a nice setup and space (according to some) but when I can't find a tool, a pattern, or a project,... Well let me just say again, I am in.

For me, I would like to add,

Buy fabric, notions, quilt books, rulers, only if I have sold, donated, traded, regifted the same quanity of fabric, notions, quilt books, rulers. I would like to have 4 free (forgiveness) passes when I fall off the sewing pile and the UPS/FEDEX/USPS angel leaves packages on the side porch (internet junkie). If I can add these, I will join the moritorium challenge.

I tried this last year at the request of my son.
I lasted the 6 mos; but immediately went to one of my favorite shops and spent $400+ - defeated the whole purpose.

I would do this but I know of a sale that is happening soon in Yorkville. 2 ladies have closed their shop and they have a lot of fabric at $2 a yard...I don't know about the rest of you but I simply cannot resist! They told me it would be sometime after the 1st of this year and promised to e-mail me. I will forward it when I get it if anyone is interested.

No NEW fabric until I have used up all of my accumulated scraps for scrappy quilts. BUT, that does not includes thrift store fabrics. Last year I paid an average of $1.00 per yard for my thrift store finds. The one other resolution was NO MORE VINTAGE SEWING MACHINES. Well that resolution just got shot down big time. My DD called my last night to say the Mother of a friend of hers has a White Family Rotary Sewing machine for sale with all the original attachements, manual and the purchase receipt of July 24, 1918. AAARG, fabric is easier to store (hide?) than sewing machines. DD is such a great enabler.

i'm in- i have so many ufo's to finish up- and stacks of fabrics/projects i really have no excuse to shop- and this is the year i would really like to do some upgrades on my machines & other things- in order to do that i need to not (waste) my money on things i do not need- no matter how good a sale might look-...i might have to start out buying some solid black though- it is for a quilt back- and i will get enough extra to cover what i need for my star backgrounds i'm doing for the Carol Doak (50 paper pieced stars) beyond needing solid black i should be able to make it till November for this
i am starting the new year on such a Positive Note

I will try! I am to the point I have so much I am overwhelmed, it is mostly scraps so I need to get them sorted and organized.Then sew,sew,sew!
