I have alot of fabric scraps that I hate to throw out but was thinking of making a scrappy quilt. I was wondering what to do with them....just throw them in a pile and decide when I have enough or cut them in strips/squares. If cutting thems what is the best size strip/square? I have been reading here on the prices going up and I really don't want to waste any fabric. Thanks to all!!! :D

I look at each piece and cut it into a strip or square. I have 2.5 in, 4.5 in, and 6.5 inch squares, and strips of various sizes (they can be cut into squares if needed). Anything that cannot be cut into one of these goes into a box for applique, or something else. When I get tired of collecting squares and strips, I make a quilt. The tiny pieces I put together into crumb squares/blocks and collect them till I have enough for a quilt.

For me it's easiest to have them in strips, squares or triangles. That way they can fit together easily without a lot of trimming as you go. There's still going to be some trimming required, but if the pieces all have straight sides you can go much faster.
So far I've only done pillows with scraps, but I was very pleased with the way they turned out and the fact that they used up most of the smaller pieces of that particular set of fabrics.
Hope I can get a good picture of them.

I hate to throw fabric away also. If the pieces are to small for me to use in a quilt whether it be applique or my mosaics, I now make pendants and more things with them. Here, I'll show you what I have started doing since I also make jewelry. I'll also include a photo of one of my mosaics so you can see them also.

As I finish each project excess fabric is cut into various size strips/squares, fat quarters and put in the little clear plastic containers from food you purchased
at the deli then mark the box with size of scrap, etc.
