When sorting and organizing your fabrics, do you put the solid colors of like: blues, greens and such together? Or do you
put solid blues with prints together as long as they are blues and such? How exactly do you sort your fabric.
I don't really have a big stash yet. So I try to keep all the solids together and the prints together with the prints.

I happen to be doing this right now.
I'm putting small fabric pieces together by colour.
My stash isn't huge, either, and my yardages are separated into specialty (Christmas, flannel) and then colour.
I don't have enough fat quarters to worry about sorting, just put them together into a FQ carrier.

Ok thank you. When I reorganize my bins that is how I will do it.

I sort kinda by type or specialty then color. Also by size. For instance, I have all my Florals together, Military type fabrics are grouped, as well as animals, and bali's and childrens fabrics. My flannels are separate as well. Christmas and holiday are in their own groups. I do have a lot of blenders and tone on tones, those are by color groups.
Then within those groups they are grouped by color. My fat quarters and less than 1/2 yard cuts are in a couple plastic rolling drawer carts, my 1/2-3 yards are mostly in my cabinets. I have one cabinet that is all back size pieces. I also have several Rubbermaid tubs that are full of Back size pieces. My flannels are in the Rubbermaid, those are all in the garage a few feet away from my sewing area.

I sort by color, not pattern too. All my holiday, novelties, and flannels are in their own separate groups also.

Because I don't use solids very often they are all in one bin. I keep my Kansas Troubles all together; others I organize by color families; some fabrics are kept together because of a certain project I picked them for. also keep Holiday, fall fabrics in their own groups.
